Our Story

Healthy Me Healthy Communities was born in Manchester but the seeds were sown years before with our founder Rich Browning’s family experience of mental health, unemployment and poverty. 2022 is our birthday, celebrating 10 years of delivering social impact for a long, healthy and happy life.

The story starts with the Rusholme Community Conversation and Health Plan that blossomed into new innovative health programmes delivering impact for residents and communities. Along the way we met some inspiring people and collaborate with a range of partners from neighbourhood groups to statutory partners.

Our Community Grocers started in 2016 and are a vibrant place where good health, wellbeing and learning happens alongside picking up a fresh basket of food. They are an inclusive community space where it is as much about getting support for housing, finance and mental health as it is catching up with friends, having a brew and volunteering as, showcasing our soup to services approach!

The latest chapters in our story include our new Learning Store and Gorton Central. The Gorton Central story begins life as a paint paint factory and now the baton (and paint brush) is being handed from the amazing Gorton Committee volunteers to HMHC creating a vibrant community facility for food, wellbeing, training and enterprise.
