'Outstanding' Gold Award
for Gorton Growing Together
Gorton Central's Urban Growing Garden continues its winning streak at the Britain in Bloom 2025 awards.
Congratulations to the Gorton Growing Together team - led by local couple Pat and Gary Lamb- for another Britain in Bloom and RHS Gold Award for 'It's Your Neighbourhood'.
Achieving an Outstanding - Level 5. Based at Gorton Central's Community Growing Space, this older people-led growing group rescued the derelict land behind Gorton Community centre and transformed it into a multi-award-winning urban garden.
Bringing their horticulture and community expertise to Gorton Central, Pat and Gary Lamb lead the 'Gorton Growing Together' group. Their passion is to bring accessible urban growing opportunities for Gorton and Abbey Hey residents with no access to green spaces.
The Community Growing Garden offers hands-on learning and promotes circular economy practices. Building on over a decade of experience tackling food insecurity through a plant-rich, planet-friendly approach, we are addressing the root causes of poor nutrition and food system inequalities.
We are extremely lucky to have access to this incredible green space where partners can run outdoor workshops and integrate the outdoors into their wellbeing practice.
In the coming year, we are planning a series of educational workshops on healthy eating, sustainable living, and food skills — empowering individuals, strengthening community resilience, and fostering a fairer, more sustainable local food system. Sign up for our
