Listening to what communities need from cancer research
Building on the success of the award-winning
Cancer & Us: Community Conversations project, we continued to build our partnership with
Vocal,
the residents of Gorton, and researchers from the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection theme at the National Institute for Health and Care Research, Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, to explore how we could better embed community perspectives into research.
the initial set up
- Co-development meetings with 8 community members from diverse backgrounds to discuss their views on the formation of a new group
- Deciding on what topics they would like to have a say about
- Decisions on how the group should run
- Identifying any additional support they would need
What makes this research group different?
Instead of focusing on specific research projects, the group discuss broad topics that they prioritised, such as 'cancer risk' or 'prevention'.
